Artist Bio

Thank you to Tactile Arts for publishing this artist bio.

The small text in the article below says:

Tokpa means 'by the water’.
Tamara's home studio overlooks the glorious blues and greens of Darwin Harbour.

Tamara believes challenges bring opportunities. This certainly proved true when she was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2022 and underwent neurosurgery the following year.

Tamara's successful career came to an abrupt halt, and her busy lifestyle was put on hold.

Her healing journey is intertwined with her artistic endeavours. She found herself sitting still and had time for her lifelong passion - art. It became her priority to spend time doing what she loved the most.

Recovery started with slow stitching, then painting, and as Tamara's creativity assisted her to regain abilities, she returned to machine sewing and learned new techniques such as lino cutting and block printing.

Tokpa Studio was born.
